our story
In early 1993 a family ministry was born. The Dunaways were only babes in Christ, and in-experienced but they were eager and willing to do whatever and go where-ever God wanted. They began traveling in the family car sharing a simple testimony of how God changed their lives. Most of the services would be filled with gospel singing.
A couple of years later, since their ministry was mostly music oriented, it was a big surprise to the family one night when Randall started to give his usual testimony. He opened his bible and an hour or so later he had preached the glory down and the altars filled with hungry souls. Their ministry would never be the same again!
When Kanah, (the Dunaways daughter and youngest child) was only eleven years old, they entered the studio as a family group for the first time. Over the next few years they would record a few custom albums and begin to receive regional airplay.
Their music has become a mainstay on Christian radio nationwide with chart topping hits, record sales, and they have garnered multiple awards and nominations. Ongoing acceptance by radio includes the continued exposure of their music by the Singing News Radio Network based in Nashville, Sirius XM, multiple other radio networks and gospel radio stations across the country and some abroad. Some of the larger venues where they have appeared include Silver Dollar City, Dollywood, Crabbfest, The National Quartet Convention, Gospel Music Television World Premier, and radio programs including Front Porch Fellowship, The Gospel Greats with Paul Heil, and The Midnight Jamboree with the late Dottie Rambo.
The Dunaways made a history making climb into the retail charts a few years ago when their radio single "When There's No Hope (There is Grace) became the first southern gospel single to reach the top of 5 different charts at Amazon.com.
"We have never seen a faith based song dominate our secular sales charts like the Dunaways did," stated Millie Harden of Amazon.
The Dunaways song continued to climb at other digital retailers like Apple iTunes and Napster with units tossing them into the Top 10 and ending the week to become the highest selling southern gospel single in the history of the Nielsen digital soundscan era and becoming the highest debuting song for the month in Singing News Magazine. They have received two grammy nods during their long music career.
Today The Dunaways are working in full time ministry now approaching their 40th year. For the past 35 years they have pastored what they feel is the most wonderful church in the world, New Zion Pentecostal Church, Philadelphia, MS. Randall and Tammy are blessed to live near their children and six grand babies.
Stability in whatever undertaking they have pursued has been a theme. Whether it's pastoring, teaching Sunday School, doing church work, ministering to people with their music, or producing music for other artists. Through their two production companies. Dunaway Music llc and the newly formed children's developmental label: Firefly Records llc The Dunaways stay quite busy just living for God. It is their desire that the Lord would continue to use them in what ever way he chooses.
The Dunaways have recorded and will release a new single late this summer 2026 “That Sounds Like God To Me” The song was penned by Tammy Dunaway and Marcia Henry. It has been a true to life experience and is surprisingly timely with the many endeavors going on with their current music ministry.
The song is being released and promoted by Family Music Group owned by Les Butler. This is the same label the Dunaways were a part of for so many years releasing many hit songs to radio. FMG and The Dunaways are partnering on the single release and it should be at radio late summer 2026. “This is a blessing to work with Les and Family Music Group on this upcoming single release. We pray that many lives will be touched thr0ugh our combined efforts and we appreciate Les for giving us this opportunity”!
