DUNAWAYS TO RELEASE NEW RADIO SINGLE!
The Dunaways have recorded and will release a new single late this summer 2026 “That Sounds Like God To Me” The song was penned by Tammy Dunaway and Marcia Henry. It has been a true to life experience and is surprisingly timely with the many endeavors going on with their current music ministry.
The song is being released and promoted by Family Music Group owned by Les Butler. This is the same label the Dunaways were a part of for so many years releasing many hit songs to radio. FMG and The Dunaways are partnering on the single release and it should be at radio late summer 2026. “This is a blessing to work with Les and Family Music Group on this upcoming single release. We pray that many lives will be touched thr0ugh our combined efforts and we appreciate Les for giving us this opportunity”!
Tammy Dunaway Launches Firefly Records LLC
Since 1998, Tammy Dunaway has provided guidance and support to other artists, assisting them through the recording process. She has produced adult gospel projects intermittently over the years, continuously expanding her knowledge and expertise in the field.
Approximately a year ago, Tammy was approached by a family with a child artist named John Carter Ballard. Despite not remembering recording his mother during her teenage years, she confirmed that it had occurred. During her initial meeting with the family, she candidly informed them that radio formats do not typically feature child artists, and she was unaware of any market that did. While some stations or programming may include content created for children, the artists themselves are not the primary focus, except for sing-along background music.
This revelation coincided with a period of reduced releases and tour promotion for The Dunaways, as well as the pandemic’s impact on their activities. Their church, where they have served for the past 30 years, experienced significant growth, and for the first time since 2003, they ceased releasing consecutive radio singles. Additionally, Tammy was still recovering from a severe illness that had taken nearly a decade to overcome, following a life-threatening incident involving black mold poisoning.
One of Tammy’s cherished hobbies is spending time in her flower garden. She can recall numerous instances where God guided her and provided direction during these moments among the flowers and butterflies, and this particular moment was no exception. While tending to a “DAVID AUSTIN” rose in the garden, she engaged in a conversation with God about the child artist she had just met, and sought His guidance on how to assist him with limited resources, primarily relying on social media platforms. In that moment, God reminded her that the first musician He ever selected to minister to another human was a young boy named “DAVID.”
In the Bible, during the reign of King Saul, an extraordinary phenomenon occurred when David’s anointed music reached the king’s ears. The discomfort Saul experienced would subside, and God Himself had handpicked just a little child for this special purpose.
Tammy pondered why first she, then preachers, then the Christian music world, none of which had ever made this connection before. She recalled Jesus’s words, “Suffer not the little children to come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!”
While still sitting in the dirt, God revealed to Tammy the reason behind His choice of a child for this particular ministry. It is because the anointing could flow through their innocence, making it potent.
With this assurance, Tammy, John Carter, and his mother, Valerie, embarked on their journey. They learned recording techniques, she composed songs for his project, and began creating demos. “We engaged in extensive discussions, dreams, exploration, and learning,” Tammy recounted. And it was SO MUCH FUN! Every Thursday night here would come John Carter and Valerie to my studio, greeted by my Welsh Corgi who was in love with J.C. and I always had a goody jar full of something Nutella usually followed by a Dominoes delivery before the night was over!
As they progressed, God guided them toward a specific path. Although some of their original plans were altered, they embraced God’s guidance and walked in His footsteps. Doors that seemed sealed began to open. Others closed.
Ironically, at the same time, Les Butler, The Dunaways’ record producer for many years, had already contacted them about recording a new single! Right in the middle of all that, one day, Tammy answered her phone, and one of gospel music’s greatest songwriters, Marcia Henry, had called. Marcia informed Tammy that she had heard The Dunaways on the radio and decided to reach out. Tammy was delighted to hear from her!
From that moment on, Marcia and Tammy collaborated to write The Dunaways’ new radio single, which is scheduled to be released on the radio late in the summer. The second verse reads: “When life drains the joy out of me, that’s when the Lord intervenes. Favor that doesn’t make sense, it’s not just coincidence. Every door that denied me the key, opened in ways I just can’t believe, oh what could this miracle be? Oh that sounds like God to me, that sounds… just like God to me.”
Marcia Henry, the writer of the much-loved gospel hit “Roses Will Bloom Again,”
unaware of the conversation with the Lord Tammy had while tending the David Austin Rose about her little artist, also sent her a song for him to consider. The song is entitled “LIKE DAVID DID.” Wait, what?
After that, we encountered numerous instances of divine intervention. They were frequent and often left us in awe. We could not believe our own eyes and ears as it all unfolded. However, it did unfold in ways I just couldn’t believe, oh what could this miracle be? Why it sounds, just like GOD TO ME!
The journey led them to a place none of them had ever been, and least expected: Nashville’s Music Row, where renowned producer Kent Wells (Dolly Parton) operates his studio. God brought together a group of total strangers to create something new. “Now, after all this time, I realized John Carter will be ministering “LIKE DAVID DID.” and exactly how the Lord chose a kid in the first place! Tammy expressed, “I was good in my backyard playing with my roses, ministering along with my husband and daughter at our church, and I’m still blessed to be embracing my place there. But apparently, God had another job for me to do. I did not set out to do it, it wasn’t my idea, and it was not my dream or ambition… But oh, what joy has come to me through this labor for Christ.” I am so thankful I just went with the calling of the Lord on my life to do anything He wanted!
